Pass Plus is a driver training course for newly qualified drivers usually taken within the first year of passing the driving test.
The course was designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), in conjunction with insurance companies, and Driving Instructors.
The course was introduced to try to address the high accident risk of new drivers.
The course is designed to give newly qualified drivers extra skill or experience in situations that they may not have covered in depth whilst preparing for their driving test, (in the case of motorway driving not covered at all).
Pass plus does not involve a driving test, it is a course consisting of 6 modules, you are assessed by your Driving Instructor during the driver training sessions, and marked as either ‘achieved the standard’ or ‘exceeded the standard’.
You do not fail any module, if necessary, extra training would bring the standard up to the required level.
Pass Plus Syllabus
In return for completing the Pass Plus Course many Insurance Companies will give a discount.
The discount can vary, but some insurance companies quote discounts of 40% on their websites.
In many cases this more than covers the cost of the Pass Plus Course.
Pass Plus Course Structure
The Pass Plus Driving Course consists of 6 modules and must be completed over a minimum of 6 hours.
To complete the course, we need to be able to sign off each module as being achieved, it is extremely rare that we cannot do this within the 6 hours of training, but in rare occasions we would have to recommend extra training sessions in order to achieve the required standard.
The Pass Plus course can be structured as 1½, 2, 2½, or 3 Hour driver training sessions, or we can organise a full day of training and complete the whole Pass Plus course in one day.
